Online Counselling for Admission to IITs, NITs begins

KANPUR:
After getting deferred thrice, online counselling for admission to IITs, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIITs and Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) started on Wednesday. The counselling began only after CBSE declared JEE ranks for Paper-1 and Paper-2. The ranks could not be declared till June 30 as some of the states' boards had not handed over marks to the CBSE. It was only on Wednesday morning that students, on checking the website www.jeeadv.iitb.ac.in, could learn that the counselling has started.

This gave much relief to students who had been desperately waiting to lock the institute and the B.Tech branch of their choice. It is for the first time that joint counselling is being held this year. Students who have cracked JEE (Main) but could not succeed in JEE (Advanced) will be filling seats of NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, whereas the students who cleared both the exams successfully are eligible to lock seats in IITs. These students will fill the 10,006 seats of 18 IITs and ISM, Dhanbad. The first round of seat allocation will be declared after the counselling concludes on July 4. This will let students know which IIT or the branch of engineering has been alotted to them.

On first day of the counselling, students filled the choice for top B.Tech branches such as computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, to name a few. Same is the case of the students who have cracked the JEE (Main). They locked choices for NITs followed by IIITs.
