MBBS Counselling to Start from June 29 in Bihar

PATNA:
The counselling for 807 seats in nine medical colleges of the state will start from June 29, according to Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) sources. In all, there are 950 seats but 15% seats in every college are reserved for All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) applicants conducted by CBSE. These seats will not be counted during counselling.

The Supreme Court has withheld the AIPMT results and directed CBSE to conduct the test afresh. The overall 950 seats include 150 in PMCH and 100 each in Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sri Krishna Medical College and Hosptial (Muzaffarpur), Anurgrah Narayan Magadh Medical College (Gaya), Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, Government Medical College (Bettiah), Pawapuri Medical College (Nalanda) and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (Bhagalpur). Four seats in each medical college are reserved for Centre's nominees except for Darbhanga where five seats are reserved.

Like last year, this year too it is being assumed that about 75 reserved seats out of 125 may go vacant as the SC/ST candidates have not scored the qualifying marks for the admission. The minimum qualifying marks for the reserved seats is 40. The BCECEB has written to the health department to take a call on this. Last year, the reserved category students launched an agitation, forcing the state health department to lower the bar. The department had to succumb to the pressure and had to lower the bar after taking permission from Medical Council of India (MCI).
