Karnataka govt. opposes common all India Medical Entrance Test

The Karnataka state government has opposed the proposal for a Common Medical  Entrance test for admission medical and dental courses throughout the country.

Karnataka is not interested in a uniform Common Entrance Test (CET) for the entire country. The state CET has been formulated to protect the interest of the state’s students. Any all-India uniform CET will adversely affect students from the state. There is no question of scrapping the state CET. The government will go ahead with state CET in the next academic year too. The dates for the CET have already been announced,” higher education minister VS Acharya told reporters .
However, Acharya expressed the state government’s readiness to conduct the CET in association with the entrance test conducted by the Consortium of Medical,Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) for admission to private medical and engineering courses. But it was up to the COMED-K to take a call on this, he added.
Replying to a question on the pending payment of fee subsidy for meritorious students, the minister said that Rs15 crore had been already released for the purpose.
