JPNAIIMS to double MBBS intake to 100

PATNA:
JPNAIIMS is all set to double the intake of students into its MBBS course to 100 this year from 50 last year. The institute had admitted its first batch of MBBS students last year. According to Dr Chandramani Singh of JPNAIIMS, the admission procedure has already started for all the AIIMS centres in India. The classes of the second batch would begin by August this year. In another important development, around 85 faculty members have been recruited by the institute, of which 54 have already joined. "Around 6,500 people applied for the vacancies from across the world and some excellent professors from the United Kingdom are among those selected as professors," said Dr (Prof) G K Singh, director, JPNAIIMS, here.

Until now, the institute had been holding first-year MBBS classes in non-clinical subjects, namely anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and community medicine. Since the main campus at Walmi is still not ready, classes are being held at the AIIMS residential complex, located 2km away from the main campus. However, according to Dr Singh, by the end of the year, the main campus, too, will become functional. So far, the students have been residing in a temporary accommodation but with the main campus getting ready, a permanent hostel for them will become operational. As far as the second-year session is concerned, furniture and equipment are being installed and the institute will be ready for it soon. According to institution sources, facilities like Out Patient department (OPD), IPD, Trauma Centre, and Operation Theatre will become operational on August 15 this year.
