DU Gets Court Notice For Not Holding Supplementary Exams

New Delhi: Delhi high court has issued a notice to Delhi University seeking its reply on a petition filed by a law student for direction to hold supplementary examination in each semester in order to give another opportunity to students to clear their papers.

"Why will LLB students, who are in IInd and IVth semesters, not be allowed to appear in supplementary examinations?" said the division bench of justice A K Sikri and Siddharth Mridul. It asked the counsel for Delhi University to make its stand clear by October 24, the next date of hearing.

The bench was hearing a PIL filed by Aditya N Prasad, who was denied promotion to the final year of the three year LLB course. The university said that Prasad was not promoted as he did not pass in 15 subjects out of 20 in four semesters, which is mandatory.

The PIL alleged that the present rules for promoting students were against the Advocates Act and the norms prescribed by the Bar Council of India.
