Sown 23 years ago, the idea called ‘MICA’ has evolved in a short span of time, as the only Strategic Marketing and Communication school in India that is academically engaging, with contemporary yet holistic values.Having announced our refreshed vision and identity in March 2014, we are now MICA and not "Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad". Our vision is not limited to Ahmedabad but to India and the world. We do, however, retain our tagline, "The School of Ideas" – a rich part of our history, starting with advertising and moving on to marketing, digital communication, brand management and a passionate focus on development communication.MICA's renewed vision To Create Leadership in Strategic Marketing and Communication – equally focuses on both parts, thus reflecting our core strengths and making way for a positively charged future. We integrate multiple perspectives and philosophies in our own unique design- we are analytical and creative; we are task-oriented and relational; we crunch numbers and we write poetry. MICA equally and simultaneously focuses on three bottom lines – People, Planet and Profit.For the first time in MICA's history, this convocation, we had graduates from all our residential programmes in the last academic year - the first doctoral student graduate from our FPM programme; the first batch of our One-year CCC programme and last but not the least, the 19th batch of our PGDM-C programme.

 

Staying cutting-edge, MICA takes pride in being the first in India to have introduced a specialisation dedicated to Digital Communication Management. Digital has changed the way in which we communicate, interact, do business, entertain ourselves and actually, the way we live. Thanks to the specialisation, MICA students consequentially have become aware of the digital ecosystem's developments and the social and business opportunities therein - there has been a significant increase in digital companies visiting MICA to recruit: 21% (19 out of 90 companies), recruiting 28 % of our students (40 out of 153).

Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Communications (PGDM-C) : MICA's flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Communications (PGDM-C) grooms business leaders with a focus on creative thinking, consumer-centricity, communication and community outreach. The PGDM-C, equivalent to an MBA, has evolved into one of the premier programmes in the country, endorsed by 100 per cent campus placements with the best corporate houses in India and in recent times, abroad as well. MICA's stringent selection norms coupled with the rigour of the curriculum ensure a highly committed, creatively and innovatively anchored, professionally-oriented manager, skilled in the practice of Strategic Marketing and Communication for the industry and the society. This programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Association of Indian University (AIU), which equates it with an MBA degree. MICA compares favourably with the top B-Schools and top MBA colleges in India. It is, of course, considered to be the premier institute in Strategic Marketing and Communication.

Student Placements at MICA :

 

Since its inception in 1991, MICA has come to be recognised by the industry as the destination for professionals in the field of Strategic Marketing and Communication. Our consistent track record of 100% placements year after year and the diversity of companies that recruit from MICA, are testaments to the quality of our student pool and the robustness of our curriculum. Known also for the marketing stellars it produces, MICA offers a talented pool of bright and motivated students who are ready to be absorbed into the industry.At MICA, a unique trilogy of students, faculty and learning resources produces some of the best minds in the country. Consequently, many of our alumni hold some of the top managerial positions today, across companies in India and abroad. MICA's students come from diverse backgrounds, which helps them to examine managerial issues from multiple perspectives. Some of the unique characteristics of our students include academic excellence, leadership qualities and a deep-rooted respect for culture and values.

 

The admission process is a rigid one, beginning with the MICA Admission Test (MICAT), followed by a round of group exercises and personal interviews. Students are given a rigorous training in different functional areas of  marketing communication, such as brand management, marketing research, media management, digital media and account planning and are exposed to the best of corporate practices. Teaching methods and learning pedagogy at MICA include lectures, case studies, seminars, group discussions, business games, role plays, simulation exercises, structured and unstructured group work, as well as field visits. The emphasis is on involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts and theories to business requirements.As an added advantage, the learning provided at MICA is not only restricted to the classroom. Numerous MICA students take up live projects with the industry, in addition to their summer internships, so as to get practical insights into real-world businesses. Additionally, the key essential catalyst in this process of transformation is our highly accomplished and erudite faculty. Our faculty members are involved in facilitating learning through teaching, consultancy, as well as cutting-edge research.

 

In a nutshell, the education at MICA equips students with the skills, knowledge, and analytical mindset required to identify and solve problems; effective communication skills to implement solutions agreed upon and sufficient practical exposure to create action plans and execute these solutions. Creativity is integral to a MICA student’s way of working.

 

There are three kinds of placements at MICA:

 

Summer Placements : This internship provides students with an opportunity to gain work experience in an area of concentration or interest while receiving credit towards their diploma. The summer internship is organised for 8-10 weeks in various advertising agencies, media and marketing organisations during the summer break at the end of the first year of the programme. No student is admitted to the second year without completing the summer internship.

The summer placement procedure starts around the month of September.

 

Lateral Placements : The lateral placement process caters to students with substantial prior work experience. These students are offered positions above the entry level at various organisations.

 

Final Placements : MICA has maintained a 100% placement record since the past few years. The final placement procedure starts around the month of December.
