In 1870 the Maharaja of Vijanagaram first floated the idea of starting a Medical College in Lucknow. But the idea was watered down due to paucity of funds. In 1905 the visit of King-Emperor, George V, then Prince of Wales, inspired the idea of establishing a college to commemorate the occasion. The originator of this fine ideal to commemorate the occasion was late Raja Sir Tassadnq Rasul Khan of Jehangirabad to whom Sir Harcourt Butler wrote on 1st December 1905. "It must ever be a source of pride to you to think that the first suggestion of such a movement came from you absolutely spontaneously." On 22nd March 1906, the Secretary to Govt. U.P. wrote to the Registrar, Allahabad University "It is the desire of subscribers to the Foundation of King George's Medical College that this College should be the best in the East and it will be aim of Government that the College shall give to its students the best education possible."

King George's Medical University is situated in the heart of the historic city of Lucknow which is the capital of India 's most populous state Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow lies about 500 km east of Delhi . The city was the seat of the Nawabs of Awadh in the 19 th century and a centre for the arts - music, painting, dance, 'shatranj' or chess, kite flying and 'tehzeeb' or culture. The university campus adjoins the crowded 'Chowk' area and is off Shahmina Road , very close to the bank of River Gomti

The university campus is spread over an area of roughly 100,000 sq metres. It is situated about 5 km from Charbagh Railway Station and is well connected to all parts of the city by public transport systems such as bus, tempo and taxi. Originally, the main administrative building, called the Administrative Block and the Anatomy and Physiolgy buildings were built in the early 20 th century. As the institution grew, more and more departments were created in new buildings. Therefore the campus really consists of a conglomeration of buildings housing the various departments, which came up over a period of 100 years as and when the need was felt. There are separate buildings for Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Cardiology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Rheumatology, Geriatric Mental Health, Surgical Oncology, Chest Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology, Anaesthesiology, Opthalmology, Urology and Community Medicine. Cardiothoracic Surgery is presently in the Chest Medicine building, Microbiology along with Pathology and Biochemistry along with Physiology.

U.P. POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (UPPGMEE-2016)

M.D./M.S./M.D.S./Postgraduate Diploma Seats and “The Fundamentals in Abdomino- Pelvic Ultra Sonography: Level one for M.B.B.S. Doctors” in K.G. Medical University (KGMU), UP State Medical Colleges & Institutes.

Eligibility:

For UPPGMEE-2018 (M.D./M.S./M.D.S./Postgraduate Diploma):

1. Candidates who have passed MBBS/BDS course from the State Medical Colleges of Agra, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Meerut, UP Rural Institute of Medical Science & Research Saifai Etawah, Medical/Dental Faculty of K.G. Medical University, Lucknow and recognized Private Medical/ Dental Colleges of U.P. are eligible to appear in the entrance examination (vide GO, No.313/71-2-16-103/2011 dated 27/01/2016)
2. Candidates must have completed or completing their Compulsory Rotatory Internship by 30^th April,2016.
3. A candidate who has already taken admission on the basis of earlier U.P.P.G.M.E.E/ A.I.P.G.E.E. is not eligible to appear in the examination until he/she completes and passes the course where he/she is presently admitted. However, such a candidate shall be eligible ifa.

A. He/She has resigned from the said course, his/her resignation has been accepted by the Principal of the Medical/Dental college or the Vice Chancellor (in the case of candidates of KG Medical University) and he/she has refunded the full amount of salary/stipend received by him/her during the said course along with the fulfillment of the terms and condition laid down in the Bond of Rs 5 Lacs at the time of admission, before the date of notification of this examination, i.e 10th December 2015.

B. He / She is presently pursuing P.G. Diploma course in any subject, with the condition that  he/she will be considered for the Postgraduate Degree course in that subject only.

1. You will need a secure computer with internet connection and printer for the application process.
2. Login: First create a login on the website using your valid email ID and make a password of your choice. Remember this email ID and password for printing admit card later on.
3. A confirmation email will be sent to the email you had given. Now open your email and click on the link given there. This will take you back to UPPGMEE page and now your login has been activated; you may proceed as per instruction given on the website.
4. Payment: Payment can be made as follows:-

(a) Online Payment: Using a credit/debit card, pay application fee of Rs. 1800/-+transaction charges (Debit card 0.75% + Service Tax; Credit card 1.2% + Service Tax)

(b) Offline payment:

1. Cash payment of Rs.1800/- + Rs. 20/- (Bank Charges) in the a/c no. 50100135781194 of UPPGMEE-2016 at any branch of HDFC Bank. Bank will give a unique transaction ID
2. Cash payment of Rs.1800/- + Rs. 30/- bank charges in the A/c No. 50316825058 of UPPGMEE- 2016 at any branch of Allahabad Bank. Bank will give a unique transaction ID (Journal no)
