About Us:


The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), an autonomous institute has been brought under the fold of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in August 2002. The institute is located in close proximity to other research institutions at Bhubaneswar. The institute was earlier established on February 11, 1989 and was under the administrative and financial control of Department of Science and Technology, Government of Orissa. Prime minister of India dedicated the institute to the nation on July 15, 2003 with a declaration to develop the institute as a “National Centre for Excellence”. The mandate of ILS is to undertake basic and translational research in frontier areas of life sciences. The research interests of the faculty are in three major areas: (a) Infectious Disease Biology, (b) Gene Function and Regulation and (c) Translation Research and Technology Development. In addition, new collaborations with industry have been established to tap commercial potential of laboratory science.

 

Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, engaged in advanced research in modern biology invites application from Indian nationals for the Ph.D Programme. all Selected candidates will be eligible for JRF fellowship as per GOVT. of India norms.

Eligibility:


Essential Qualification:

  1. Candidates should have passed the M.Sc. (any branch of science), M.Tech., M.Pharm., M.V.Sc. or equivalent qualification with minimum 60% marks (or equivalent grade point).
  2. Should have qualified in CSIR/UGC-JRF or ICMR-JRF or DBT-JRF or DST-INSPIRE. Candidates who have qualified only for lecturership in CSIR/UGC or GATE (97 percentile or above) or GPAT (97 percentile or above) are also eligible to apply. They should have qualified in these examinations no earlier than June 2014.
  3. Candidates who meet eligibility criteria-(b) and expecting the Masters final results by 1st October 2013 are also eligible to apply, provided they have minimum 60% mark in other semesters.
  4. The upper age limit of the candidate should be 28 years as of 1st July 2015. Age relaxation will be given for five years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/women/PH and three years in case of OBC (as approved by Govt. of India) candidates

If selected in the final interview, candidate having a national fellowship need to activate the fellowship as per the norms of the agency. Institute of Life Sciences will provide an equivalent fellowship to all other selected candidates not having the national fellowship. Depending on the vacancy the Ph.D. students will be provided hostel facility. To and fro bus/rail fare by the shortest route limited to second sleeper class will be paid to all the candidates selected for the interview.
