The Indian Institute of Science Education & Research Pune is a premier institute dedicated to research & teaching in the basic sciences. It was established in the year of 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. In 2012, it was declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. As a unique initiative in science education in India, IISER aims to be a Science University of the highest calibre devoted to both teaching & research in a totally integrated manner, with state of the art research & high quality education, thus nurturing both curiosity & creativity. IISER Pune has initiated a 5 years Integrated Masters programme & a Post Masters PhD programme in Integrated Sciences in an intellectually vibrant atmosphere of research. Apart from classroom instruction, IISER builds student skills in areas such as scientific inquiry, problem solving, communication skills, computational sciences, electronics, instrumentation & workshop practices. For Integrated Ph. Diploma in:

Chemistry:

• Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall %age; not only in majoring subject) or CGPA 6 out of 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC / ST & PD candidates) in B.Sc. (General / B.Sc. majoring in Chemistry, Physics & Biology) & qualifying additional criteria are as given below can apply for Integrated Ph.D. Programme in Chemistry 2016.
• Candidates with rank No. 1000 or less in JAM 2016 can apply for the Integrated Ph.D. programme in Chemistry.

Mathematics:

• Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall %age; not only in majoring subject) or CGPA 6 out of 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC / ST & PD candidates) in B.Sc. any specialization & qualifying additional criteria can apply for Integrated Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics 2016.
• Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview on the basis of their score / ranking in: - JAM 2016 in MA or MS only / NBHM 2016.

Physics:

• Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall %age; not only in majoring subject) or CGPA 6 out of 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC / ST & PD candidates) in B.Sc. & qualifying additional criteria can apply for Integrated Ph.D. Programme in Physics 2016.
• Candidates satisfying Educational Criteria as above and additionally with rank <= 500 in either JAM (Physics) 2016 or JEST (Physics) 2016 are eligible to apply.

Biology:

• 60% marks (in aggregate) or equivalent CGPA for General / OBC (55% or equivalent CGPA for SC / ST) in Bachelor's or equivalent degree in any in any one of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences / Biodiversity / Chemistry / Ecology & Environmental Sciences / Mathematics / Physics / Psychology.    
• Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection is subject to successful completion of the Bachelor's degree with the above mentioned requirements at the time of admission. (Scheduled start of semester is 1st August 2016).

Admission to BS-MS Dual Degree Programme 2018: Students will be admitted to the five year BS-MS Dual Degree Programme beginning in August 2014 through the following channels:

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Basic Science Stream: Students qualifying in SA (2017)/SX (2017)/SB (2017).

Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2018: Students securing a place in the rank list of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). 

State and Central Boards: Those, who are eligible for INSPIRE scholarship by Department of Science and Technology (DST) on the basis of their aggregate scores in class XII may be Considered for admission after clearing an aptitude test.

Scholarship: BS-MS students are eligible for either KVPY or INSPIRE scholarship.

Facilities:

Library: IISER Pune Library is a creative & innovative partner in teaching, learning & research activities which in turn contributes to the achievement of the institute's mission to become a science university of highest calibre with state of the art research & high quality education. Library has undergone a sea of transformation, not only with doubling of books but also providing online access to all premier journals as well as full - text & bibliographic databases available in the field of science & allied subjects. Efforts are being put to apply ICT in all possible operations & services of library to improve its service quality.

Hostel: The educational success of a residential programme strongly depends on the campus environment & comfortable living conditions given to the students. This can be possible by provisioning a wide range of facilities, moral & other support to the students. A comprehensive Hostel Management system is the key factor of student’s success. IISER, Pune has the following systems & set up of Hostel Management. Management Authority includes Administrative Officer, Staff, Warden & Hostel Manager, Faculty & a group of students.

Women’s Lounge: A special resting area for women is available on the 3rd floor of the Main Academic Block. This space has been especially demarcated for pregnant or nursing mothers, disabled individuals & for cases of sudden emergencies or sickness. It is available to all women including faculty, staff members & students who may be unwell or may need to rest for a while. There are 2 rooms with attached bathrooms. The rooms are furnished with beds, table, chair & cupboards. A large common sitting space with a sofa set is also present. The area is Wi - Fi enabled & a phone connection that can be used to place emergency calls is available. In addition, Wellness Centre, the main medical facility at IISER Pune, is available to all for sickness & / or emergencies that require immediate medical attention.

Sports Facilities: Playgrounds for outdoor games like football, volley ball, basket ball, handball & cricket; indoor games like table tennis & badminton are available. Annual & seasonal sport meets are also organized time to time. A gymnasium & a Music Room with sufficient instruments & equipment are available in the campus. Cultural programmes are also organized from time to time. Students participate in social work with local NGOs / social organizations. Students take parts in the celebration to mark important days like “Republic Day”, “Independence day” & religious festivals.
