Government Dental College & Hospital (GDCH), Ahmedabad was established in 1963. The institute provides undergraduate (BDS) as well as post graduate (MDS) courses to the students which are nationally recognized. BDS :

Higher Secondary School certificate examination of state Board or the Central Board of Secondary Education (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with 50% (40% for Scheduled Castes and Tribes) marks in aggregate of Science subjects with English, as the medium of instructions.

Infrastructure:

Located within the colossal campus of new Civil Hospital, Government Dental College & Hospital itself has pretty big and spacious premises. The civil hospital campus is like a self-contained colony with all the amenities available within the campus itself. Always bustling with all variants of patients, it often looks like a refugee camp due to potholed roads, old decrepit buildings, lack of cleanliness and an overall air of commotion. Almost 50 years old dental college is gratefully not amongst those buildings as it is refurbished time and again; in fact one of the building is currently undergoing renovation and repainting. Classrooms, lecture halls, labs with up to date equipment and a spacious library – all those facilities which are needed by a dental student are very well taken care of. Those students who want to refer to more books than those present in the comprehensive library of GDC can visit the common library for all medical science students. One flaw that can be pointed out is the lack of cleanliness in washrooms, labs and hostels.

Hostels :

Hostels are there only for first year students due to dearth of rooms. Second year onwards students should move out of their rooms and manage accommodation outside on their own. First year hostels are so old that beds start creaking under your weight. There are twin sharing rooms and toilets are common. The good part about hostels is that they’re cheap rather almost free.

Fees : Rs 6,000 per year.
