Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, comprising of Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune, was accorded the status of University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, vide Notification No. F.9-39/2001-U.3 dated 11th January 2003 of the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary & Higher Education, New Delhi, and (ii) Notification No.F6-9/2003 (CPP-I) dated 24/01/2003 by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

Education is much more than the mere collection and distribution of knowledge. It offers intellectual hospitality, opportunities for innovation,  creativity; power of thought and imagination. It envisages development of character and inculcation of a firmness of mind and zeal to offer one's best to the world. Education is the means of unfolding moral and spiritual potentialities of men. The mission of the Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, is "To contribute to the socio-economic and ethical development of the nation, by providing high quality education through institutions that have dedicated faculty and state-of-the-art infrastructure, and are capable of developing competent professional and liberal-minded citizens". With this mission the University has been providing high quality education in the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Medical Sciences, Nursing, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Management and distance learning through eight institutions. In each programme the University ensures the provision of high quality education, the pursuit of knowledge and the creation of new ideas.

Though the University started with one constituent unit, i.e. the Medical College in January 2003, it has now eight constituent colleges/institutions offering a variety of programmes. These are as follows:

Eligibility:

B.Tech: HSC, CBSE with Physics, Chemistry, Biology taken together with 50% marks for general category and 40% for reserved category.

MBBS: Any examination equivalent to H.S.C. / (10+2) examination, of any recognized Board/ University after 12 years of study. 50% in PCB for general category and 40% for reserved category.

B.Sc: H.S.C. or any other examination equivalent to 10+2 HSC examination of any recognized Board/ University after 12 years of study. 45% for general category and 40% for reserved category. Specifically in PCBE subjects.

B.D.S: H.S.C. or any other examination equivalent to 10+2 HSC examination of any recognized Board/ University after 12 years of study. 50% in PCB for general category and 40% for reserved category.

B.P.T: H.S.C. pass or any other examination equivalent to 10+2 HSC examination of any recognized Board/ University after 12 years of study (with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology as subjects). Preferably minimum 50% marks in PCB.

P.B.B.Sc: Revised General Nursing Midwifery (RGNM) / General Nursing Midwives (GNM)

B.Optom: 12th Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics & English.

MD/ MS/ PGD Programme: Passed MBBS from a recognized Medical College.

MPT: Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy and such institute should be recognized by the IAP. Registration with IAP

M.Ch/ DM: Passed MD/MS from a recognized Medical College.

M.Sc (Nursing): B.Sc.(Nursing) Registered with INC and concerned state Nursing Council.

MDS: BDS

MBA: Post Graduate with minimum 45% for general category and 40% for reserved category.

M.Sc (Biotechmology): Bachelor's degree In life sciences, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Agri Biotechnology, MBBS, B.Vsc.

Ph.D: Post Graduate with minimum 55% for general category and 50% for reserved category.

M.Tech (Integrated): HSC, CBSE with Physics, Chemistry, Biology taken together with 50% marks for general category and 40% for reserved category.

Admission Procedure: Through All India Entrance Test and personal interviews Conducted by Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune.
