About Us:


Demand for an exclusive University for Agricultural Sciences for Hyderabad-Karnataka (H-K) region was felt almost a decade back (Annexure I) owing to inimitable climatic conditions and farming activities. The H-K region comprising Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir districts (Map), an agrarian area with an irrigation potentiality of 12 lakh hectares through Tungabhadra, Krishna, Karanja, Mullamari, Hirehalla, Bennethore and other irrigation projects, spanning a total geographical area of 44.96 lakh hectares accounting 33.60 per cent of the geographical area of the state, of which nearly 68 per cent is under cultivation and has a unique combination of medium (32.42%) and large farmers (36.69% bestowed with rich natural resources especially for agricultural development. The initiation for new Agricultural University at Raichur began through a letter by Government of Karnataka (No. AHD:165:UAS:99 dated 17-12-1999) directing University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to submit a feasibility report on the proposal. An expert committee was constituted (No.AO/Est-V/LC/4778-B/99-00; dated 5-1-2000) which not only realized the need for new Agricultural University but also recommended the proposal. The cabinet approved the proposal for establishment of Agricultural University at Raichur, with an allocation of rupees five crore during 2008-09 academic year on 26-9-2008.

Eligibility:

 

B.Sc (Agriculture): Applicant should have passed two years pre-University course or 10+2 level or 12 years schooling or its equivalent examination with 50 percent marks or above in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) subjects or in any other equivalent optional Science subject (50% marks in any other optional Science subject)

 

B.Tech (Agriculture Engineering): Applicant should have passed two years pre-University course or 10+2 level or 12 years schooling or its equivalent examination with 50 percent marks or above in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) subjects or in any other equivalent optional Science subject (50% marks in any other optional Science subject).

 

Master’s Degree in Agriculture: M. Sc. (Agri.):

  • The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with OGPA of not less than 2.50/4.00 or 6.50/10.00 or an equivalent percentage of marks. Bachelor’s Degree holders in Agricultural Marketing and Co-operation are eligible for Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension Education subjects only. However candidates with B. Sc. (Agri. Biotechnology) from any Agricultural University are eligible for Masters Degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding/ Seed Science and Technology/ Molecular Biology and Agricultural Biotechnology and Crop Physiology.
  • Candidates with B. Sc. (Sericulture) from any Agricultural University are eligible for Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural Extension Education and Agronomy.
  • For M. Sc. (Agri.) in Crop Physiology/ Genetics and Plant Breeding/Horticulture/ Molecular Biology and Agricultural Biotechnology/ Seed Science and Technology/ Agronomy/ Agril. Microbiology/ Agril. Entomology/ Plant Pathology/ Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry: Candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture from any recognized University.
  • For M. Sc. (Agri.) in Agril. Economics/ Agril. Extension Education: Candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Agricultural Marketing and Co-operation from any recognized Agricultural/ Horticultural University. Such candidates should also enclose certificate of English language proficiency like ELTS/ TOFEL.

Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering: M.Tech. (Ag. Engg.): The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering Technology with an OGPA of not less than 2.50/4.00 or 6.50/10.00 or an equivalent percentage of marks from any recognised University/ Institute.

 

Doctoral Degree in Agriculture/ Agricultural Engineering: The candidate should possess a Master’s degree in respective subject with a minimum 7.00/10.00 or an equivalent OGPA from an University/ Institute in the same subject with course work and research at Master’s level in which candidate seeks to specialize in Doctoral degrees. Master Degree holders in Agricultural Marketing and Co-operation are eligible for Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension Education subjects only. Such candidates shall also enclose certificate of English language proficiency like ELTS/ TOFEL.
