National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the premier Institute of Design, Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenario. NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions.

The Institute is a pioneer in envisioning and evolving fashion business education in the country through a network of fifteen professionally managed domestic centres at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Raebareli and Shillong. NIFT has set academic standards and excelled in thought leadership by providing a pool of creative genius and technically competent professionals. The Institute provides a common platform for fashion education, research and training.

NIFT invites applications for Ph.D in the areas of Design, Management and technology as applied with broad reference to fashion, textiles, lifestyle and apparel industries. the Program will be offered with the purpose of carrying out research in the above mentioned sectors and creating a body of original knowledge for the use of academia, industry, policy makers and other stake holders.

Eligibility:

For B.Des. (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication):

• Maximum Age: 23 years as on 1st October, 2018. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Differently Abled Person (PHP) subject to following qualification.
• The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

or

• General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

or

• Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.

or

• A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

or

• 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

For B.F.Tech. (Apparel Production):

• The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

or

• General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/SriLanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics /International Baccalaureate (IB).

or

• Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

or

• A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

or

• 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

For M.Des:

• Age: No age limit
• Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India

or

• Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only.
• Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

Note: Design Space is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design and presupposes that candidates would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of the programme. M.Des. would not provide any basic knowledge and skill development in design as a part of Master programme. The programme provides an option to students to earn final semester credits through ‘Course Work’ or a ‘Dissertation’.

For M.F.M:

• Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

or

• Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

For M.F.Tech:

• B.F.Tech. from NIFT

or

• B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute /University recognized by law in India.

For Ph.D:

Following qualifications are eligible for consideration for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

1. Post Graduation degree in the relevant area of Design, Management or Technology (or) equivalent qualification from an institute/ university of national/ international repute with minimum 7 years of education after secondary (Class X) last of which was the Master’s degree
2. Where the Master’s Degree is found to be not relevant to the area of Research, a minimum 10 years of professional experience (teaching / working) in the proposed area of research is required.
3. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0 on a 10 point scale (5.5 for SC/ST candidates) or equivalent as determined by the institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 55% (50% for SC/ST candidates) marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded in the PostGraduation degree.
4. The area of research of the applicant has to be relevant to the field of fashion in terms of design, technology and management.
5. Candidates who are employed besides fulfilling the above eligibility criteria are required to submit “No Objection” certificate from their current employer including NIFT.
