About Us:


Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur was established in 2008, to foster technology education and research in India. The Institute is committed to technological thought and action to benefit the economic development of India. Scholarship in teaching and learning; Scholarship in research and creative accomplishments; and relevance to Industry are three driving forces for us at IIT Jodhpur.

 

Currently, it is functioning from its Temporary Campus at MBM Engineering College premises in Jodhpur. IIT Jodhpur is expected to shift by 2016 to a sprawling residential permanent campus on 852 acres on National Highway 65, north-northwest of Jodhpur towards Nagaur. The new campus of IIT Jodhpur is meticulously planned and envisioned to stand as a symbol of academics – simple, but deep. As on date, the Institute has 749 Students (596 B.Tech., 41 M.Tech. and 112 Ph.D.) along with 45 Faculty Members and 45 Staff Members. The Institute is committed to multidisciplinary approach of technology development. Hence, it has established state-of-the-art laboratories for basic research, and has organised its academic degree activities through Departments and its coordinated research through Centers for Technologies.

Eligibility:

 

For B.Tech.:

  • Admissions to B.Tech. Programs are made once a year (in July) through the all-India level Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by IITs. The procedures and other requirements for admission are specified in the JEE Information Brochure brought out every year.
  • Foreign Nationals: A few admissions are offered to foreign nationals under the Cultural Exchange Fellowship Program of the Government of India, administered by Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. Persons interested in these Programs are required to apply through the Indian High Commission/Embassy in their respective countries.

For M.Sc:

  • Admissions to M.Sc Programs are made once a year (in July) through the all-India level Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) conducted by IITs. The eligibility criteria prescribed below are the absolute minimum. However, the procedures and other requirements for admission are specified in the JAM Information Brochure brought out every year.

Program: Qualifying Degree and Marks obtained

  • Chemistry: Bachelor's degree with Chemistry as a subject for three years or six semesters and Mathematics at (10+2) level.
  • Mathematics: Bachelor's degree with Mathematics as a subject for three years or six semesters and Mathematics at (10+2) level.
  • Physics: Bachelor's degree with Physics as a subject for three years or six semesters and Mathematics at (10+2) level.

For all the above M.Sc. Programs, a first class in the qualifying degree is required; and the First Class is defined as:

 

(i) A minimum of 60% marks for GEN/OBC (55% for SC/ST) category in aggregate or as specified by the university/institute, OR

 

(ii) A minimum CGPA of 6.5 for GEN/OBC (6.0 for SC/ST) category on the scale of 10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 10 (for example 5.2 for GEN/OBC category (4.8 for SC/ST) on a scale of 8) OR (iii) A first class as specified by the university/institute.

 

For M.Tech.:

The eligibility criteria prescribed below are the absolute minimum. The Admissions Committee may prescribe requirements over and above these

The eligibility criteria prescribed in this section are at least the minimum. The Admissions Committee may prescribe requirements over and above these.

 

(a) Engineering discipline

  1. Applicants with a Master’s degree in Engineering namely M.Tech, M. E., M. Sc. (Engineering) or MS by Research with at least 60% marks or at least 6.5/10 Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Such students are required to have at least 60% marks or 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Applicants with a Master’s degree in Sciences with at least 70% marks or at least 7.0/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, CSIR, UGC or NBHM score card. Such students are required to have 70% marks or 7.0/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor’s degree.
  3. (a) a B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc. (Engineering) degree with at least 80% marks or at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score, and

              (b) a B.Tech. degree from any of the IITs with at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE Score Card.

 

(b) Science discipline

  1. Master’s degree in Sciences with at least 60% marks or at least 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, CSIR, UGC score card or equivalent. Such students are required to have at least 60% marks or 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor’s degree. Applicants holding Master’s degree in Engineering also are eligible to apply for PhD Programme in Sciences with at least 70% marks or 7/10 CPI or CGPA. Again, such applicants are required to have at least 70% marks or 7/10 CPI or CGPA in both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
  2. Applicants holding only Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with

            (a) a B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc.(Engineering) degree with at least 80% marks or 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score card

            (b) a B.Tech. degree from any of the IITs with at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA or a valid GATE score card.

 

(c) Humanities and Social Sciences discipline

  1. Master’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering or allied areas with at least 55% marks or 6.0/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, UGC or CSIR score.
  2. Applicants holding only Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with

          (a) a B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc.(Engineering) degree with at least 80% marks or 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score card; and

            (b) a B.Tech. degree from any of the IITs  with at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA or a valid GATE score card.


Admission Procedure:

  • The Academic Committee shortlists applicants with a proven academic record based on a cut-off of the GATE, CSIR or UGC score card or equivalent. The shortlisted applicants will be called for the Written Examination and/or Interview. Admission will be made based on academic performance in the Written Examination and/or Interview.
  • The Institute shall call the shortlisted applicants for an interview to the Admissions Committee consisting of Faculty Members associated with that particular discipline. Based on the performance of the applicant in the interview in addition to her/his academic record, the Admissions Committee will recommend to the Chairman, Senate, names of applicants found suitable for admission to the PhD Program.
  • All applicants, who are offered admission, will be informed by eMail within a week of the interview process. Persons whose selection is approved by the Chairman, Senate, will be admitted to the PhD Program at IIT Jodhpur, on payment of fee prescribed for the Program.
