Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education (Visual Impairment) was established in 2006 to conduct Bachelors Degree programme in Special Education for the Visually Impaired under the Faculty of Education, University of Delhi and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India. The college has been included in the list of colleges prepared under section 2 (f) of the University Grant Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. The college is established and run by the Blind Relief Association, Delhi, a premier nongovernmental organization, conducting training programmes to prepare special teachers for the visually challenged for more than 4 decades. The Training Centre for the Teachers of the Visually Handicapped (TCTVH) being run by BRA was established in 1967 under the aegis of National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NIVH), the then National Centre for the Blind. NIVH continues to extend financial support to run the B.Ed. (Special Education-VI) course for preparing qualified and high-quality educators for the visually impaired.

Eligibility:
The eligibility for B. Ed. (Special Education - Visually Impaired) course is B. A. or B. Sc. or an equivalent degree at graduate level with (a) two of the school teaching subjects as the area of study at the bachelors degree level; (b) one of the two school teaching subject can be studied at 10+2 level. The eligibility for admission is 50% aggregate in the qualifying degree examination. SC/ ST/ Visually disabled/ other Physically disabled will be allowed a concession of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility requirements.
