Government Medical College Srinagar, established in 1959 was one of the very first Medical Colleges of Independent India and was ranked among the Top 5 for many decades. Its the premier Government Medical Institution concerned with imparting Health and Medical Education. The Associated Hospitals of the College Act as the Tertiary Heath Centers and are the Main Referral Hospitals from all corners of Kashmir Valley.The Medical College Provides Medical Education at the Under graduate level (M.B.B.S courses) and Post Graduate level (MD/MS and Diploma courses) in its various Associated Hospitals.

The College Hospitals are the main referral destinations from all primary and secondary Health Centers across Kashmir and receive thousand of patients in Out Patient Department and In patient department.Around a 100 Medical Students Graduate from the college each year. The college admits students purely on the basis of Merit obtained in the Common Entrance Examination held by Board of Professional Entrance Examination held once every year in June.

The Candidate should :

• Have passes higher secondary part II (10+2) from any recognized statutory Board / University with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their elective subjects and must not have secured less than 50% marks in aggregate.
• Candidates must be of 17 years of age on or before 31.12.2005 and of 17 years on or before 01-10-2005.
• No UNDER PROCESS CERTIFICATES will be entertained.

MD/MS courses and PG Diploma :

The Candidate should :

• be a permanent resident doctor
• non permanent resident doctor as defined in Para 2(b) of SRO 158
• possess MBBS Degree or its equivalent Degree recognized by University of Kashmir, Jammu and the Medical Council of India.
• be registered in the State Medical Council.
• have completed satisfactorily one year pre registration compulsory rotatory internship in duly recognized institutions as laid down by the University of Jammu /Kashmir for registration as a Graduate.
• have valid category certificates for candidates seeking selection under any reserved category.

Admissions in GMC Srinagar  :

All Admissions in Government Medical College Srinagar are strictly via Entrance tests conducted Annually by Board of Professional Entrance Examinations Jammu & Kashmir.

Mode of selection  :                                                                   

• The students getting the highest marks in the BPEE test are selected.
• If two students get same marks, their relative marks in Biology paper is decisive.
• 50% seats are reserved for girl students.
• The results are declared in the local news papers as well as over the net.
• The student has to get an admission slip from the BOPEE after his selection and present it in the students section of GMC Jammu.
• He has to then register himself in all the concerned departments of 1st M.B.B.S, pay the required fee and thus his journey begins.
