Head Start is a Montessori House of Children situated in Koramangala, Bangalore, India. It has a Pre-Primary Programme for children aged 2½ to 6 years and a growing Primary Programme for children aged 6 and above. The Primary Programme, presently upto Grade V in 2009, will be adding one class per year so that by 2014 our present Grade V students will be in Grade X. These programmes are based on the spirit, philosophy and vision of Dr. Maria Montessori.
On July 4th 1984 Head Start began in the once quiet suburbs of Koramangala, Bangalore, India. It firmly believes that education in the foundation years is pivotal for the childs growth and development. Also believing that the Montessori Method is the best for the child, the spirit and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori are the guiding force. Since its inception Head Start has generated tremendous positive energy. It began with three children and now we have over six hundred. Our main strengths are largely intangible ... committed and dedicated teachers, a very supportive parent body, genuine love for children, belief in each childs potential and a desire to serve the universal CHILD. We appreciate the many blessings we have received.
For twenty years Head Start led a nomadic existence. starting from the garage of the Founders home and then moving thrice from one rented premise to another. In 2001, the concerted efforts of our Managing Trustee bore fruit and we were allotted a Civic Amenity Site in IV Block, Koramangala. Today Head Start has its own building, built on this Civic Amenity site allotted by the Bangalore Development Authority. Both the Pre-Primary and Primary Programmes are presently housed here. The Head Start Educational Trust has purchased 5 acres of land on Sarjapur Road, Sarjapura Hobli, Anekal Taluk, Bangalore District, for its High School.
