Gurukul is a Montessori-cum-high school situated on Kanakpura Road to the south of Bangalore. The school is one of the ventures of the T. Muniswamappa Trust. Gurukul was started in the year 1995 with student strength of only 17 and has grown to over 700 students across pre-primary to STD X. The pre-primary (two-and-a-half to six years) is based on the Montessori Method of education. The same method continues in the primary classes from Std I to Std IV. From Std. V to Std. X the school follows the state board syllabus (SSLC).The school is situated on a two acre campus amidst a lot of greenery and coconut palms. Classrooms are brightly ventilated and have been built to accommodate only thirty to thirty five children per class, so as to maintain a good teacher-student ratio.
The Primary Montessori environments on the ground floor spill out onto long open verandas overlooking the garden. The verandas are used as working spaces by the children. The play ground accommodates basketball and volleyball courts. An open air, raised platform, framed in by coconut palms acts as a stage for cultural activities, yoga, dance and singing classes.
