About Us:

The school, the oldest Birla Institution in Pilani, the outcome of an experiment in education, was started as a PATHSHALA as early as in 1901, by the late Seth Shiv Narayanji Birla for the education of his grandsons late Shri Ghanshyam Dasji Birla and late Shri Rameshwar Dasji Birla. Raised to a true English Middle school in 1916, the school became a pioneer by extending the benefits of English education available to the people of Shekhawati and outlying areas as well.

It rapidly grew into a HIGH SCHOOL (1925) and later on into an INTERMEDIATE COLLEGE (1928). The school was named as BIRLA HIGH SCHOOL in 1943, MULTIPURPOSE HIGHER SEC. SCHOOL in 1959 BIRLA HIGHER SEC. SCHOOL in 1973 and BIRLA SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL in 1977. The BIRLA COLLEGE also in between came into existence in 1943 when University classes were separated from the school.

Birla School Pilani (Birla Sr. Sec. School) is a prestigious residential English medium school, approved by central and state governments. The school is managed by the distinguished Birla Education Trust with adequate resources provided by the birla parivar in terms of highly qualified and dedicated staff, well equipped laboratories, rich library with constantly enriching additions, modern education technology which makes learning a pleasure and a source of happiness, vast play grounds covering an area of over 20 acres, almost all games & sports facilities, most modern computer lab, state-of-arts swimming pool and multi gym.

In the Primary Section, the young children are imparted foundation training in preparation for formal education later on. The emphasis is laid on the development of child’s physical, intellectual, emotional, aesthetic and social aspects of personality. The children are offered ample opportunities for learning by doing, and the children’s individual progress is mentioned closely.

The methodology of child-centered is to motivate to learn by doing, rather than depending on rote memory. The project method of learning is adopted in order to sustain and internalize learning. The curriculum that is evolved for each class focuses attention on academic excellence on the one hand, and overall development of human personality on the other.

The senior school is equipped with all the facilities needed in a senior secondary school for doing well in board examinations. These included modern science laboratories, various activity centers of work experience, Library, Computer Network and Internet, and Language labs. We also produce good results in the board examinations and never stop at anything in improving our performance every year. We have well-maintained sports and games complex in the campus, which offers children facilities to play games of their choice. Whatever facilities are available today, are more than adequate to cater the needs of all the children.
