Establishment of SMVDU: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been established under the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University act, 1999.an Act of the J&K State Legislature (ACT No. XII of 1999 dated 12th May 1999) as an autonomous, highly Technical & fully Residential University. The University started functioning as an academic unit in Aug 2004 when it was inaugurated on 19th August 2004 at the hands of the then Hon'ble President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.  Dr. Kalam also delivered the first lecture to the students of the University.

Recognition: The University is approved by UGC under Section 2(F) & Section 12(B) of UGC Act of 1956. The technical programs of the University are recognized by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) while Architecture program is recognized by Council of Architecture.

Eligibility:

MBA:

Graduates with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any stream from a recognized University/ Institution.

M.Tech:

Computer Science & Engineering: B.Tech./ B.E. degree with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA, in any Engineering discipline or M.Sc in Physics or Mathematics from a recognized University / Institution.

Manufacturing & Automation: B.Tech./ B.E. degree with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA, in any Mechanical Production & Industrial Engineering from a recognized University / Institution.

Electronics & Communication Engineering: Graduates having B.E/B.Tech degree with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA, in Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Applied Electronics / Instrumentation & Control / Electronics & Instrumentation / Electrical / Electrical Engineering / M.Sc (Physics) with Electronics Specialization/ M.Sc (Electronics) from a recognized University/ Institute.

M.Sc:

Biotechnology: Graduates with 55% marks in any stream with Bot./Zoo./Microbio./Biotech./ Biochemistry/ Agriculture/ Bioscience as a subject from a recognized University/ Institution.

Physics: Graduates with 55% marks in any stream with Physics/ Electronics as a subject from a recognized University/ Institution.

Mathematics: Graduates with 55% marks in any stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized University/ Institution.

M.A.:

Philosophy: Graduates with 50% marks in any stream from a recognized University/ Institution.

English: Graduates with 50% marks in any stream with English as a from a recognized University/ Institution.
