About Us:


Welcome to Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), a unique institution devoted to the research, teaching and application of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences. Founded by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis in Kolkata on 17th December, 1931, the institute gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959.

 

The Headquarters of ISI is located in the northern fringe of the metropolis of Kolkata. Additionally, there are four centers located in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Tezpur. Research in Statistics and related disciplines is the primary activity of the Institute. Teaching activities are undertaken mainly in Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore. Offices of the Institute located in several other cities in India are primarily engaged in projects and consultancy in Statistical Quality Control and Operations Research'.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

P.G. Diploma in Stat. Methods with Applications

 

Eligibility:

 

B.Stat.(Hons.)/ B.Math.(Hons.):

  • 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education (or its equivalent) with Mathematics and English as subjects of study.
  • Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) awardees of any previous year need not sit for the written test; they would be directly called for interview.

M.S:
Quantitative Economics:
Three-year Bachelors degree in Economics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics OR B.Stat. Degree from the Indian Statistical Institute OR Engineering degree. (Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the B.A./ B.Sc. pass level.)


Library and Information Science:
The minimum qualification for admission to the M.S. in Library and Information Science programme is a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized Indian or foreign university with a minimum of 15 years of education.  The candidates must have secured at least 60% marks in the Bachelors’ degree.


M.Tech:
Computer Science:

  • Master's degree in Mathematics/Statistics/ Physics/Electronic Science/ Computer Science/ Computer Applications/ Information Technology.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC 'B' Level).

Quality, Reliability and Operation Research:

  • Master's degree in Statistics or Master's degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from the Indian Statistical Institute.
  • Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher School level.

M.Stat: 3 years Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as major subject, or a B.Stat./B.Math. Degree/ a Statistician’s Diploma/ Senior Diploma from the Indian Statistical Institute.


M.Math:
3 year Bachelor’s degree or a B.E/ B.Tech. Degree, with Mathematics and an exceptionally strong background in analysis and Abstract Algebra or a B.Stat. / B.Math. Degree from the Indian Statistical Institute.


Ph.D:
A good academic record with a Master's in a relevant discipline.


PGDP:
In order to be eligible for admission to this programme, a student must have a 3- year Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at the undergraduate level. B.Tech. and B.E. degree holders are also eligible to apply.
