About Us:


Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds from UNESCO came as Roubles from the then Soviet Union. In 1961 Parliament decreed the IITs as ‘Institutes of National Importance'. Since then, IITB has grown from strength to strength to emerge as one of the top technical universities in the world. The institute is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research. Reputed for the outstanding calibre of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the institute attracts the best students from the country for its bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes. Research and academic programmes at IIT Bombay are driven by an outstanding faculty, many of whom are reputed for their research contributions internationally.

 

IIT Bombay also builds links with peer universities and institutes, both at the national and the international levels, to enhance research and enrich its educational programmes. Over the years, the institute has created a niche for its innovative short-term courses through continuing education and distance education programmes. Members of the faculty of the institute have won many prestigious awards and recognitions, including the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar and Padma awards. Located in Powai, one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai, the residents of the institute reap the advantage of being in the busy financial capital of India, while at the same time enjoying the serenity of a campus known for its natural beauty. A fully residential institute, all its students are accommodated in its 15 hostels with in-house dining; the campus also provides excellent amenities for sports and other recreational facilities.

 

Facilities:

 

IIT Bombay is a residential campus that has all the students and most of the faculty and staff living on campus. The Institute has 13 students’ hostels, which include the recently added two state-of-the-art hostels each having accommodation facilities for about 450 students and two well-secured hostels for women students. Each hostel has modern amenities including a computer room, gym, LAN connection to each room. Students, however, are not permitted to operate and maintain motorized vehicles of any type in the campus except on medical grounds. The Institute also has a good 52-bed hospital with OPD and in-patient facilities that include, a pathology lab, dental care, radiology, sonography, physiotherapy, and an operation theatre. The Student Activity Centre (SAC) provides excellent facilities for sports and cultural activities. Sports facilities include a swimming pool, tennis, badminton and squash courts and vast playgrounds for field games. Wildlife camps and trekking are popular off campus activities. Cultural activities on the campus are fostered by film clubs, classical music societies, debating and drama clubs and a hobbies club. The Institute also has strong NSS/NSO programs. The Entrepreneurship Cell guides students and promotes in them the spirit of entrepreneurship by organizing competitions, and lectures and workshops by eminent entrepreneurs. A business incubator also provides opportunities to students to develop products and technologies, and to generate their own business ventures. The Cell for Human Values – a unique feature of IIT Bombay, enriches the minds of students through its various activities. A Faculty Advisor is specially appointed to look after the academic performance and matters related to SC/ST students. A Foreign Students’ Advisor helps and guides the students from abroad in academic and non-academic matters.

 

 

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) is one of the fifteen higher Institutes of Technology in the country set up with the objective of making available facilities for higher education, research and training in various fields of Science and Technology. The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design 2018 (UCEED 2018) will be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED Admissions Committee 2016

 

UCEED 2018 is open to all Nationals (Indian, Foreign). Candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor Degree Program in Design (B.Des.) at IIT Bombay should appear in UCEED 2018 B.Des Program at IDC, IIT Bombay

 

Industrial Design Centre (IDC) at IIT Bombay has a well-established Master of Design degree (M.Des) Program in Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation Design, Interaction Design & Mobility and Vehicle Design as well as a PhD Program in Design

Eligibility: 


For B.Des:

A candidate, including a foreign national, must fulfil each and every one of the following three criteria to appear in UCEED 2016

  • Age limit: The candidate should have been born on or after 01st October 1996 if belonging to the GEN or OBC-NCL category and on or after 01st October 1991 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD Category
  • Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years; note that UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year
  • Qualifying Exam: The candidate should have passed the qualifying exam (Class XII or equivalent) in 2015, OR will appear in 2016. Those who appeared for the first time in their qualifying exam in 2014 or earlier are not eligible

Eligibility Criteria for B.Des at IIT Bombay:

  • For admission to B.Des, the candidate should have passed in the qualifying exam. If a qualifying Board awards only letter grades without providing information on the passing grade on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the passing grade and submit it at the time of online acceptance of the allocated seat
  • In case such a certificate is not provided, the decision taken by the B.Des admissions Committee will be final. Candidates should have qualified in UCEED 2016
  • The criteria, as specified above, is applicable "in toto" to all the candidates including foreign nationals

Qualifying Examination:

  • The final exam of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities website
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Exam conducted by a Board or University recognized by the AIU; final exam of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
  • Sr. Secondary School Exam conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects; any Public School, Board or University exam in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU
  • HSC vocational examination
  • A Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration
  • High School Certificate Exam of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
  • Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) exam outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the exam they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII exam
  • In case the Class XII exam is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) exam earlier

Reservation of Seats: Indian nationals belonging to certain categories are admitted under the seats reserved for them in accordance with the rules of the Govt. of India. The categories and the extent of reservation are as follows:

  • OBC-NCL - 27% of seats in the course
  • OBCs website as of 01st June 2015
  • Candidates belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are NOT entitled for reservation; such candidates are treated as belonging to the general (GEN) (i.e., unreserved) category
  • SC - 15% of seats in the course
  • ST - 7.5% of seats in the course
  • PwD - 3% of seats from the parent category in the course
  • 3% reservation for PwD candidates, which is translated to 01 seat, will be cycled over in a 4-year period category-wise in the sequence, GEN, OBC, SC,ST

Thus for the academic year 2017-18, the 01 PwD seat will be allotted from the OBC category

 

How to Apply: 

  • Registration for UCEED 2018
  • The registration for UCEED is completely online and can be done on UCEED’s online portal only
  • Applicants must satisfy all of the above mentioned eligibility criteria and the application cannot be withdrawn after registration is completed. Application fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable
  • Detailed instructions for the online registration are provided on the registration portal

Registration Fee for UCEED 2018

  • The registration fee structure for UCEED 2018 is as following:
  • The registration fees is Rs.2000/- for all General, OCC-NCL male candidates and Rs.1000/- for all SC, ST, PwD male candidates
  • Irrespective of the category, all female candidates must pay Rs.1000/- as registration fees

Cities where UCEED 2018 will be held

  • UCEED 2018 will be held in the following 14 cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune
  • Candidates should compulsorily choose three cities of their choice, in the order of preference, at the time of online registration

Only those candidates who have the minimum required marks in each of the six categories and the required aggregate in both Part 1 and Part 2 will be included in the merit list
