A new Technical Institute, Hemnalini Memorial College of Engineering, under Bhattacharya Engineering Education and Research Trust has been constructed in Balindi near Kalyani, a municipal town in Nadia, WB. The site is under the newly formed Haringhata municipality. The site is already a part of education and research destination with Kalyani University, Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Bidhan Chandra Agricultural University (BCKV), Haringhata Dairy Farm, as well as the new campus of West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). The Govt. of West Bengal has just (Nov 29, 2013) offered 70-acre land to Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) in this educational hub to compete for the Rs. 6000-cr synchrotron center project.

Our college site is on Kalyani Road near “Kalyani More” on NH 34 and about 9 km from Kalyani main railway station with adequate public transportation from Kalyani and Kolkata as well as north of the district. Across from the site is the Eastern Headquarters of Border Security Force (BSF) and another institution (Dolphin college under WBUT). The 10-acre contiguous land was leased to Bhattacharya Engineering Education and Research Trust by Govt. of West Bengal (BLRO of Haringhata) for 99 years. The site is under Kolkata Metropolitan City (KMC). The construction was started in 2011 and about 65,000 sq. ft. of the building has been completed as of November 30, 2013, fulfilling the requirement of AICTE to start a new engineering college.

Our Director, Dr. Sanjoy Bhattacharya, has a Ph.D. (1985, Drexel University, Philadelphia) in Environmental Engineering and an MBA (1989, U. of Cincinnati). He has worked with USEPA and U. of Cincinnati from 1986 to 1989 and was a tenured faculty at Tulane University, New Orleans from 1990. In 2008, he and Mrs Malobika Bhattacharya formed the Trust in West Bengal. After giving a prayer to the DM of Nadia to start an environmental college and promote education in the district, the L&LR Dept. leased the 10 acre land for 99 years to the Trust. The site is under KOLKATA METROPOLITAN CITY (KMC) and Haringhata municipality. This new college, HEMNALINI MEMORIAL COLLEGE (HMC) of Engineering, is the first activity of the Trust.

Facilities:

Infrastructure: The institute is spread over 10 acres of land in a pollution free, lush green and lovely atmosphere. The environment is safe, peaceful and eco-friendly (non-industrial and pollution free).

Accommodation: The institute provides high class hostel accommodation to the students. The hostels are located inside the campus in a beautiful lash green surrounding. The hostels are neat and clean, the atmosphere is very friendly.

• Students are served with hygienic and nutritious food, which is delicious at the same time. Staff and faculty members also intake the same food. Ragging of any kind is totally prohibited in SMIT. Not a single case occurred till date.
• Hostel has its own mess managed by its own duly elected mess committee which works under the hostel superintendent. Applications for hostel boarding are accepted at the time of admission. Those who cannot be accommodated in hostels can seek out one of the numerous messing and lodging facilities in the neighbourhood.

Wi-Fi internet connectivity: In recognition of the need and importance of Internet in the field of education, HMCE offers WIFI internet connectivity anywhere in and around the College Campus & Hostels for faculty members and students. Presently HMCE provides 10 Mbps internet bandwidth through leased line.

Library: A well-stocked library, containing all the latest editions of the publications related to the curricula enables the students to enhance their knowledge in different topics and subjects taught in their courses. The latest periodicals, journals and other publications are also being provided for constant pupation in the latest development in the field of Science and Technology.

Laboratories: The College is equipped with State-of-the-art laboratories and each laboratory is well supported by series of modern servers, high tech equipments & full range of Software. Internet access is a common feature and is encouraged. Efforts are being made to provide simulation exercises and self paced learning processes through specialized software and advanced web-oriented methodologies.

Sports: HMCE has its own large sports ground at which all types of sports meet are conducted annually. The massive lush green even surface is the venue where many epic events of climaxes and anticlimaxes have occurred, providing true thrill to the spectators.
