Basaveshwar Engineering College was started in the year 1963 offering bachelor degrees in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. At present it offers degree programs in ten disciplines and ten post graduate programs including MBA & MCA. The College is a Government aided institution affiliated to Visveswaraiah Technological University (VTU), Belgaum in Karnataka and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Eight departments of the college have been recognized as Research Centers by VTU. Also five departments are recognized as QIP Centers for Ph.D programs by AICTE New Delhi. The college was granted autonomous Status by VTU and UGC in the year 2007. Since then the college has introduced Academic reforms by restructuring the curriculum keeping in view the technological developments and needs of the industry. The College has been selected under TEQIP phase II for scaling up PG and demand driven Research programs. Under this program new research laboratories and facilities have been created for the benefit of PG Students and research scholars to carry out high quality research work.

College campus is located on beautiful elevated stretch of land over 91 acres on the outskirts of the city and is adjoining to New Bagalkot town. The college has an administrative block, Lecture hall complex, various departmental buildings, Library, hostels, staff quarters, cafeteria, campus clinic, etc. An auditorium and a conference hall with seating capacities of 350 and 100 respectively are on the campus. Human Resource in the college comprises of well qualified and committed staff. The greenery and the ambiance of the campus keep the students cheerful and will have enjoyable learning experience.

Eligibility:

For B.E.:

The student should have passed 2nd PUC / 12th standard or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages and obtained 45% of marks in aggregate in Physics & Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology In case of candidates belonging to Karnataka Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B,) the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.

For M.Tech:

• Full Time: Admission to M.Tech. course shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination as specified in Ann I with not less than 50% of the marks in aggregate of all the semester / years of the degree examination (cumulative sum of secured marks of all the semesters / years divided by the sum of maximum marks). However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to **SC/ST/Cat-I, marks shall not be less than45%.
• Part Time: M.Tech QIP shall be open to the candidates, who have passed the qualifying examinations in second class and are having the experience of one academic year There shall be not less than 10 candidates but not more of 25 candidates, to organize the programme. Seats shall be apportioned among the faculty of college, industry and polytechnic in the ratio 20:3:2. Any unfilled seats from polytechnic quota may be allotted to industry sponsored candidates. The Engineering graduates other than the graduates of any of the Universities of Karnataka State shall have to obtain Eligibility Certificate from the VTU to Seek admission to P.G course in any of the colleges affiliated to VTU. Part-Time QIP students shall take admission for the course under the regulation OMQ 3.3, provided their place of working shall be within 100 kms from the institution where they seek admission.  

For MCA/MBA:

• Admission to M.C.A. course: Admission to MCA course shall be open for the candidates who have passed Bachelor degree with not less than fifty percent i.e. integer 50% (rounding –off aggregate percent is not permitted) of marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examination with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Programming or Computer or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional or elective at Degree Level. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to ** SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percent of marks of all the years of the qualifying examination shall not be less than forty five percent i.e. integer 45% (rounding – off aggregate percent is not permitted).
• Provided further that a candidate who has studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Per-University Course with 50% of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, forty five percent i.e. integer 45% (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted) of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission.
• For admission to M.B.A. course: Admission to MBA course shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree with not less than fifty percent i.e. integer 50% (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted) of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percent of marks of all the years of the qualifying examination shall not be less than forty five percent i.e. integer 45% (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted).

Placements:

Since its inception more than 12,000 engineering graduates have come out in various branches of engineering and have been absorbed in Nation's premier organizations like IES, IAS, PWD, Irrigation, Defence Services, R&D organizations in addition to private IT and Non-IT industries. Placements during the last 3 years are shown in the following bar chart and Pie charts. The college has been one of the Nodal Centers in the Northern Karnataka for campus interviews of Wipro, Tech-Mahindra, HCL, Robosoft, SLK-Soft, Caritor, Integra Micro, Apollo Tyres, Hewlett Packard, etc. The performance of our students in campus interviews has been excellent all along. Many leading companies have expressed their satisfaction regarding the performance of our product and have gracefully selected our students.

Training activities: The Training and Placement Cell organizes a number of training programs for the students of all semesters with the help of in-house experts and experts drawn from professional agencies. The activities have proved exceptionally useful in shaping the career of students.  The staff members of the placement cell work together as a team in moulding the students to the requirements of various industries. Several career guidance programs, reasoning tests, aptitude tests, puzzle solving, group discussions, mock interviews, brain storming sessions, case-discussion, pick and speak, sharing the experiences and communication skills etc., are   organized on regular basis. In order to motivate and develop the personality of students, several HRD training programs are conducted regularly.
